No CNN, I Do Not Care About Justin Bieber

Technology is a wonderful thing.

There once was a time when we could not have every bit of news in front of us at a seconds notice. You would have to wait for people like Walter Cronkite to come on TV at a certain time and let you know that indeed there was something that happened in the world today outside of your own life.

Then the internet was born.

If you stop and think about it for a second, it is amazing how quickly we can have news. The news waiting time was cut down significantly with the invention of the internet. Then the smartphone came about. Now I have an application that will alert me of any news at any time anywhere in this entire world.

This is not necessarily a good thing. In the last week, I have received countless CNN news alerts to my phone. Were they about the State of the Union address or about the unfortunate story of a 3-year-old who was the victim of a mob hit in Italy? Negative. They were about the crown prince of all things obnoxious, my chief annoyance in life.

They all regarded Justin Bieber.

For those who do not have the CNN app or coworkers or TV or access to the internet, I want to congratulate you on avoiding this story. It cannot be an easy task, that’s for sure. It seems that our good friend Justin has gotten himself into a bit of trouble legally. Somehow it has been in three different locations for three different crimes.

The reason I know about this so well is my phone let me know that Justin was arrested in Palm Beach. Then it let me know that he had posted bail. Then it let me know that, a few days later, he had been to Canada to deal with a legal problem there. It seems that any second of the day, CNN is screaming, “HEY NATHAN! I KNOW YOU’RE TRYING TO DO SOMETHING VERY VERY IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW, BUT WE JUST FOUND OUT NEW INFORMATION THAT YOU IN NO WAY CARE ABOUT AT ALL!”

I don’t know if CNN has a quota of news alerts they feel they must send out, but there has to be a better way than annoying me with this.

For starters, can we leave him alone? Yes, I know I am the last person to be trying to get the world to cut Justin Bieber some slack, but come on! He is only 19. Find me a single 19-year-old that hasn’t gotten arrested for drag racing and DUI.

Okay, that might not be as challenging as I thought. Still, though, no one is well-adjusted at 19. Let this idiot deal with his idiotic tendencies the way every other 19-year-old does: without every single person in the United States being alerted on every single bad decision you make the instant it happens.

More importantly, though, is that this is not relevant news. At all. Unless you happen to be Justin Bieber’s mother, manager, or cousin who was hoping to start mooching off of him soon, this is not relevant news. The CNN news alert should be reserved for very important news. It should not share the same topic as the front page of TMZ.

Of course if CNN stops giving breaking news about Justin Bieber, all that will leave me are their breaking news alerts about shootings on college campuses. That could be really depressing.

Maybe a little Bieber is okay…
